Locked Out: A Frightening Tale from the Tow Guy
It was a dark and gloomy night. He looked out into the vast distance and could make out a shapely figure moving toward him at a glacial pace. Had he not been so nervous, he would have never locked his keys in the car in the first place. It was his first night driving without the incessant wails of his concerned parents in the back and passenger’s seats. “Give me the keys!” he remembers yelling at his already exhausted mother. She gave in. He felt free. And now he’s locked out of the car on the deepest, darkest road in Ogden, Utah.
Calling his mother and father would reinforce the idea that he wasn’t responsible enough to handle their 1976 Chevy Camaro. It didn’t matter now. His phone was dead. The moon however, was alive! It brought out the howls of the night; gave him chills. He probably preferred his mother’s voice right about now over the wolves panting, running, scratching and screeching. At one point, he thought to throw a rock into the car window. Perhaps he could make up a grandiose story about the figure walking toward him. He was being robbed when someone smashed through his window and reached for the wheel. Quickly, he bit the arm of his attacker and struck the gas pedal, whisking off into the night—a hero he would make himself out to be.
Almost suddenly, he started to make out the approaching beast in the night. It was a man of tall stature, head propped on his shoulders like a pitcher trying to hone in on a target. He was the target. The man picked up speed and shot across the barren field, passing a “NO TRESPASSING” sign as he went. Locked out and frightened, the young boy scurried behind the car. Tucking his head safely into his knees, he longed for the comfort of his parents.
“Hay, you called for a lockout service?” he heard the billowing voice of the man. Peaking his head above the rear end of the car, he saw the man at work. His hands moved swiftly and in no time the door was ajar. The boy, now shaking, thanked the guy for helping him out. With a smile and nod, the man was gone. When he reached home, he saw his mother waiting at the door. He dropped the keys on the foyer table and gave his mother a tight squeeze. He was glad to be home.
“You butt-dialed me son. And thank goodness you didn’t find a rock. Ogden Towing would have had to tow you to their shop instead of unlocking the car.”
