How a Towing Mirror Works
When you are towing a vehicle, the ordinary mirror may not be sufficient for the proper coordination of the extra load. You will need a mirror through which you will be able to see the entire vehicle that is being towed as well as every other person who is using the road.
A towing mirror is a legal requirement in some states and you cannot be permitted to tow a vehicle if you do not have the right mirror to aid in the safe navigation of the towed vehicle.
Some vehicles will be sold when already installed with a towing mirror but for others especially the older models, you will have to install one. This will come in hand especially when you are towing a vehicle that is larger than the vehicle you are using.
If you choose to install a temporary mirror, you have to ensure that it is properly fixed so that it will not fall off while towing. Follow the manufacturer’s manual when installing it to ensure that it is well secured in the right position.
Ensure that the towing mirror is clean so that it will provide a better focus on what is happening behind you. If you install a dirty mirror, you may end up causing an accident since you will not have a clear view of the traffic behind you and the towed vehicle as well.
Besides having a clean mirror, you should also ensure that the mirror is well positioned to allow you to see as far behind as possible. You should also be able to view the road beneath so that you do not lose track while towing.
As a driver of the towing vehicle, you need to know how to use the mirror properly so that you will not just take sudden turns without considering the vehicles behind you. Get the right size and have it properly installed. If you do not want to keep installing a temporary towing mirror every time you are towing, you can go for a permanent one that will be installed by a professional.
